MSG Allergy Is Making Us Fat.

By Irving Say

An MSG Allergy does not technically exist. However, John Hopkins research has determined that MSG does cause asthma in some people. While technically the human immune system does not recognize MSG as an allergen, MSG can cause big trouble in the body.

What many people might consider as an MSG allergy is probably a different biological reaction caused by the food additive. Although it is not an allergy, the reaction is very real. People who appear to be allergic to MSG might simply be more sensitive to it.

Only about 5 percent of the population have a food allergy of any kind. An MSG allergy would put the body's immune system on high alert. This does not happen when MSG is ingested. However, something does happen when MSG is ingested and technically it's a food sensitivity. Semantics for sure, but a reaction by any other name is still a reaction.

Shorthand for Monosodium Glutamate, MSG is a highly refined vegetable protein use in food processing as a flavor in enhancer. On the chemical level, it resembles the natural glutamate in the body which is required for many bodily functions. However, MSG can easily throw the body's glutamate balance out of kilter.

Manufactured glutamate, such as MSG, is not identical to the glutamate made by the body and can cause harm. Food companies use MSG specifically because it targets and stimulates nerves in the mouth and brain. It also stimulates the nerve centers for hunger, taste and smell. MSG is essentially a drug, much like alcohol or caffeine.

It may be that MSG also affects hormone production throughout the body by way of the hypothalamus and the pituitary. While not a true MSG allergy, glutamate does excite the cells of the brain, causing them to fire relentlessly. Eventually, the cells die of exhaustion.

This MSG flavor illusion stimulates the brain and many other organs, including your pancreas. MSG causes the pancreas to produce insulin. This causes the blood sugar to drop which in turn gives you the feeling of hunger when you just ate.

MSG defeats the body's appestat. The appestat is the body's mechanism that signals when you have eaten enough. MSG makes you want to eat more and more. Naturally, this leads to weight issues and obesity. It's really not an MSG allergy. It would be more accurate to describe it as an MSG addiction. Avoid all processed food for 24 hours and you'll see how addictive it is.
