Why We Spend So Much On Botox

By Marla Nordina

In these times of great scrutiny over physical appearances, a first impression is more important than ever. The drive to make oneself look as they did in their youth is strong, and many of us will do whatever they can in their attempts to achieve this. Botox is one such way to help rejuvenate the skin and get rid of those horrible lines and wrinkles, and armed with this knowledge people all over the world seem to be getting botox injections to their face almost regularly now!

Years ago, the only option was to have plastic surgery, and this is a much more invasive procedure, but many people went through with it anyway. Procedures would take hours to perform and weeks to heal. Sometimes it could take more than a month to have the full benefit to be clear. Procedures like this are no longer the only option, because of the use of botox treatments. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released a study in 2012 that stated that cosmetic surgeries are in decline, and at the same time, the amount of less invasive procedures like botox injections are increasing.

Why is this the case?

Plastic surgery is much more expensive, so botox gives someone with a lower economic status the ability to get treatments. Complex cosmetic surgeries are just too expensive these days, and it comes as no surprise that the cheaper, safe and extremely effective botox injections are becoming more and more popular.

It should be noted that people with a larger amount of disposable income would be more likely to get botox, so it is more popular in those circles. We all see pop stars and other celebrities in the papers and magazines, talking about botox procedures they have had.

How did botox get to be so mainstream?

There is no doubt that botox has pretty much taken the world of cosmetic surgery by storm. The ease of administration, the absence of in-hospital stay for the procedure, its effects and its low cost make it an attractive option when it comes to treating fine lines and wrinkles. Not only do people use these treatments for aesthetic reasons, they are also being used to help blepharospasm, spastic paraplegias, and other kinds of muscle spasms.

Benefits from these kinds of treatments are noticeable for months down the line. Many people's confidence is boosted significantly by having these treatments, and they usually tell family and friends to have it done as well.

Botox makes such a huge difference in the lives of those who get the treatments that they are visibly happier and feel more confident, and because of this, more and more people are giving botox a try.
